Company History

Maney Publishing was formed in 1997, and since then has established itself as a leading international academic publisher, combining technical and editorial innovation with its traditional values of quality and collaborative working.  Formed from a specialist typesetting and printing company, W.S. Maney & Son Ltd, which was founded in Leeds, UK, in 1900. Maney’s transition from printing to publishing was based on a series of long-standing relationships with learned societies and academic bodies, who remain as clients to this day.

The oldest such partner is the English Goethe Society, with which Maney has worked since 1947. We are proud to have been the publishing partner of the Modern Humanities Research Association (MHRA) since 1963 and of many more societies attracted to the company since.  Equally many organisations entirely new to the Company have entered into publishing agreements in the 21st century: the largest is the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IoM3), for whom we have published its journals and books since 2001.

In 2007 Maney Publishing (USA) was incorporated, bringing our style of personal service and quality to a growing number of North American bodies. Each year Maney continues to form new partnerships with societies and institutions around the world; and we welcome proposals for entirely new journals.
