Dan Vaughn appointed new Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Manual & Manipulative Therapy

Maney Publishing is pleased to announce that Dr Dan Vaughn, PT, PhD, FAAOMPT, has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Manual & Manipulative Therapy (JMMT). Dr Vaughn will succeed Dr Chad Cook, who has provided six years of service and strong leadership to the journal. Dan will work alongside Chad in 2012 before assuming full duties for the first issue of 2013.  Dr Cook will continue to sit on the Editorial Board of the journal and work as a reviewer.

Dr Vaughn is based at the Physical Therapy Program at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, MI, where he has both teaching and clinical practice responsibilities. His research at Grand Valley State has focused on the efficacy of manual therapy interventions and the influence of therapeutic exercise on spinal posture. He graduated from East Carolina University’s Physical Therapy Program in 1977 and spent 19 years in full-time clinical practice, working primarily in outpatient musculoskeletal settings. He finished the Ola Grimsby Institute’s (OGI) residency in manual therapy during that time and was certified in manual therapy by OGI and the Norwegian Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. He became a Fellow in the American Academy of Manual Physical Therapists shortly thereafter. In 2005, he received his PhD in Kinesiology from Michigan State University.

Dr Vaughn would like to see JMMT expand its scope of influence and recognition through acceptance into Medline and Web of Science; an expanded, international circulation; greater participation of entry-level PT students and manual therapy residency students in developing journal content; and enhancement of clinical science content that supports the practice of manual therapy.

Dr Vaughn comments: “One of my main goals is to see JMMT expand the breadth of its contributions from around the world in order to offer clinicians and instructors the most intriguing and definitive source for enhancing clinical practice and education regarding the art and science of manual therapy.”

Dr Chad Cook is extremely positive about the handover: “Dr Vaughn has proven himself as a top-notch reviewer with a critical and helpful strategy toward improving papers. His vision of the further growth of the journal will continue JMMT toward its upward trajectory. I am very excited about his leadership of the journal and expect great things in the coming years.

JMMT is the official journal of AAOMPT, The McKenzie Institute International, NZMPA, OMT Australia and CAMPT. Members of these societies benefit from bespoke access to the journal content. Robert Rowe, President of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists, states: “I am confident that Dan Vaughn will do a very nice job with JMMT!  We are thankful for our relationship between AAOMPT and Maney and look forward to collaborating for many years into the future.

Dr Vaughn will be available to meet prospective authors at the IFOMPT meeting in Quebec, Canada, from September 30th to October 5th, 2012; he can be contacted by email at vaughnd@gvsu.edu.
